Things to do
Community members will be provided with textas and fabric which can be used to inscribe a message of reflection, commemoration, peace, or a poem of tribute.
At the end of the session workshop facilitator and artist Michelle Jahn will collect the inscribed pieces and prepare them to be woven into frames as part of a temporary
display at a community Remembrance Day ceremony at:
Heron Way Reserve, Hallett Cove
10am to 12noon
Sunday, 11 November
The workshops will be hosted by Deputy Mayor Janet Byram and include a presentation on Marion’s wartime history a hands-on workshop, and light refreshments.
Coordinator of the Marion Heritage Research Centre, Danielle Trewartha, will share her knowledge about Marion’s wartime memorabilia collection, which includes
records of more than 200 World War One service people from the Marion area and how you can search your families service records.
The temporary art installation will be the centrepiece of a major community event that the City of Marion is funding to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armistice.
This art project was funded by a Department of Veterans’ Affairs Armistice Centenary Grant.
