The reserve features a playground, fitness equipment, 3 on 3 sports courts and natural grassy kick about areas.

Official opening by Mayor Kris Hanna

Playground

This playground is the perfect in summer or inclement weather, featuring a large shade sail over most of the equipment.

To get to the top of the 4.5 metre high tower you'll need to choose between your balancing skills on the pommel course or your climbing skills up the wall.

From the top you can view the river pathway through the porthole window or watch your friends below through the roof net. A tunnel slide will take you back to the bottom to begin the ascent again.

Nature play is a key element of this playground with a pump, water gate, channel, sand sieve and wooden bridge.

A baby swing and standard swing round out the play area.

Sports

3 on 3 sports courts for basketball and netball have been installed. An irrigated turf area also allows for kick about sports or lawn games.

On the northern side of the site there are 5 fitness stations:

Facilities

Picnic facilities are available with an accessible BBQ, shelter, picnic table and bench seats are located through the park.

There is also a drinking fountain with dog bowl and funky red bike racks.

Although there are no toilets at this reserve it's a short walk (800m, 10min) to Hendrie Street Reserve. Alternatively you could continue on along the Sturt River Linear Park to Oaklands Reserve (1.3km, 16min).

Design and construction

The Morphettville Neighbourhood Renewal Project is part of the Government’s renewal initiative and will see 11 hectares of the suburb with a high concentration of public housing rejuvenated. It is a master planned urban community development using ‘traditional neighbourhood design principles’, supporting the wider project objectives of sustainability, enhancing social interaction and returning a sense of community to residential areas.

In developing the Morphettville Neighbourhood Renewal Project, Renewal SA and the City of Marion partnered to deliver the Appleby Road Reserve playground. The work included new paving, picnic shelter, benches, picnic table, electric BBQ, bins, new play structures, landscaping trees and water play.

Council removed the old equipment in March 2017 and construction was completed by July 2018.
