Playground Upgrade

Glandore Community Centre Reserve was upgraded with unique bird habitat designs - allowing children's imagination to take flight.

This upgraded reserve features a birdcage design with a scramble net, tunnel slide and climbing logs which opened in July 2021. Junior play echoes this theme with a birdhouse inspired structure, scramble net and junior slide.

The addition of a new games and sports plaza includes a 3 v 3 basketball court and outdoor table tennis facilities. There is a kick about lawn with mini soccer goals. There is a new pump track for scooters and bikes, a popular community request.

The centre’s woodwork group volunteered to make 13 colourful birdhouses fixed to natural timber posts within the playground. A dandelion art sculpture by Gerry McMahon completes this upgrade.

Project History

Residents are invited to view the community engagement report, concept plan and postcard. A final design has been completed.

About Marie Gregan

Recognising Marie Gregan

Marie Gregan served as a City of Marion Councillor from 1987 to 1993 (East Ward, Ward 1).

She campaigned to stop the Mobile Library service from being closed, was a strong supporter of the Glandore Community Centre and worked tirelessly to improve services and policy with the aged community.

After a prolonged battle with cancer she passed away on 6 May 1993.

The naming of the playground was the way the community chose to acknowledge her service (Council purchased the Glandore Community Centre from the State Government later in 1995).
