Mike Turtur Bikeway

The City of Marion completed 4.6 km of the shared pathway within the city boundary which was officially opened in November 2013. The section from Morphett Road to Brighton Road has been constructed in partnership with the City of Holdfast Bay.

The path provides residents with a high standard shared use pathway, recreational resource, enhanced sustainable transport options and greater connection to tram stops and local destinations.

The Mike Turtur Bikeway supports Marion’s Walking and Cycling Strategy by providing the infrastructure that makes walking and cycling a viable option for recreation and transport.

It’s also a great way to experience the natural environment. Landscaping is an important feature of the shared pathway and we have augmented this with some excellent community art between Morphett and Cross roads – look out for figures of people fashioned from giant bike links the next time you are in that area.

The bikeway also links to the section of Sturt River Linear Park at Maxwell Terrace which was recently completed by the City of Holdfast Bay, providing another recreational opportunity for our communities by enabling them to move between the two routes.

Public art project

A series of two and three dimensional public artworks appear along the bikeway, created by Greg Healey and Gregg Mitchell.

Travel the pathway and be met by action-inspired sculptural figures and poetic text reflections on the life-enhancing experience of cycling.

We hope you will be engaged by these new cultural expressions as you explore your City of Marion environment.
