Style

I am pretty versatile - I do painting, drawing, watercolour, collage, digital art - plus a range of crafts (knitting, polymer clay jewellery / buttons, hand made paper, painting on leather, shoe painting, sewing, felting, embroidery,……). I sometimes mix these up. I am fascinated with the amazing range of art materials and techniques we can use nowadays.

Biography

I started out studying a Diploma of Art at Alexander Mackie Art School in the early 80’s - and now in 2022 I am studying at Splashout Studios in Marino. In between I got two degrees and had a career working in various jobs in local, state and Commonwealth government. I spent 20 years as a statistician for Australian Bureau Statistics. I never stopped making art and I completed many short courses in painting, drawing, and watercolour and I have a beautiful library of art books. I recently retired to become a full time artist. Lucky me.

Achievements

I enjoy making art that is specifically designed for a client. As a versatile artist I adapt my tools and techniques to try and give clients what they want and value (e.g. a portrait of a pet, or a pair of painted library shoes - see my web site). There is already so much stuff in the world, so I hesitate to just make art for my own enjoyment (much as I love to) as it usually ends up in a cupboard. I am just starting to enter prizes and competitions and get involved with arts groups - so maybe some works will find good homes that way, I am an “emerging artist” - even at 60. Winner, Bald Archie’s portrait prize, Grace Emily Hotel, 2008
