A school holiday event that celebrates South Australia’s marine environment through storytelling, art and craft and exploration is being held next week at Hallett Cove.

'By The Seaside' is a free event being held at Heron Way Reserve on Tuesday, October 11, 9 am to 12.30 pm, with the support of the City of Marion, Green Adelaide and Adopt a Spot.

This event is designed to encourage families to enjoy a day at the seaside while discovering how to care for our coast and marine environments.

The program covers the following activities:

  • 9 am: Children's drop in activities. Make a jellyfish, colour in a reef life chatterbox.
  • 9:30 am: Storytelling with local author and artist 'Aqua-Clare's Ocean Adventures'. Discover SA's unique marine life.
  • 10 am: Beach detectives. A beach ramble discovering the creatures, plants and other treasures that wash up on the shoreline and live on the reef.
  • 10 am: Beach Clean Up with Adopt a Spot. Join local volunteers cleaning up our beaches and waterways.

Attendees are asked to bring their own ‘low waste’ snacks, drinks and picnic rug and to register in case event details change.

The Boatshed Cafe is located nearby and there is a playground and public toilets.
