Attention all community organisations looking for a permanent home in the City of Marion.
The Council is calling for expressions of interest in using the Cumbria Court headquarters of the Mitchell Park Neighbourhood Centre after the local community services provider moves to a new home in mid to late May.
The Mitchell Park Neighbourhood Centre is going to be part of the new multi-million-dollar Mitchell Park Sports and Community Centre (MPSCC) being redeveloped on Moreland Avenue.
The Neighbourhood Centre team will have more space and some additional staffing at the new MPSCC so it can develop additional programs and maximise community access and manage front-of-house services at the new centre.
The move means the Neighbourhood Centre’s current home at 1 Cumbria Court in Mitchell Park will become vacant.
“We want to hear from the community about what should happen at the Cumbria Court facility,” Marion Mayor Kris Hanna said.
“There are different options, considering the Neighbourhood Centre building and the small reserve next to it.
“Council could continue to maintain the building for a suitable community-oriented tenant, or it could sell all or part of the property.
“Your views will help Council decide the best way forward, so go to the Making Marion website for more information and submit your ideas.”
Mitchell Park Neighbourhood Centre has been delivering social, recreational and educational activities and programs to the community in Marion from the Cumbria Court site since 1987.
The building for the centre overlaps a boundary between land owned by Department for Education, which is used by the Mitchell Park Kindergarten, and land owned by the Council. The site is classified as community land.
