Council advises all residents and businesses that the State Government has made changes to the rules that apply to Regulated and Significant Trees across Greater Adelaide, effective immediately (16 May 2024).

All Regulated and Significant Trees require Development Approval before removal or pruning (tree damaging activity) can be undertaken.

The new rules mean that:

  • Regulated Trees are now trees with a circumference of 1m or more when measured 1m above the ground level (previously a circumference of 2m)
  • Significant Trees are now trees with a circumference of 2m or more when measured 1m above the ground level (previously 3m circumference).

You are encouraged to find out more by visiting Plan SA and down information sheets that provide more details regarding additional protected species, exclusions and other criteria and requirements.

It is important that you understand the rules that apply to trees before any work occurs, including any excavation or filling works around their root systems.
