Twilight ceremony to celebrate local heroes

The City of Marion will hold its Citizen of the Year awards to recognise those who have made outstanding contributions to the community in 2023.

The community is invited to gather at the Mitchell Park Sports and Community Centre on January 25 for a twilight awards ceremony from 6 pm.

Council has received a number of high-quality nominations and will present the Australia Day Council Awards across five categories:

Citizen of the Year

Young Citizen of the Year

Sportsperson of the Year

Sports team of the Year

Community Event of the Year

Following the awards ceremony, the City of Marion will welcome 50 new citizens during a special citizenship ceremony.

This is a free community event and following the formalities, the community is encouraged to stay for refreshments on the lawn.

"There will be a barbecue, ice cream van and entertainment for all the family, including lawn games and live music," Marion Mayor Kris Hanna said.
