Community Engagement

What are the geographical boundaries of the community that you envisage will be a part of the garden?

How have you engaged the local community to find out their level of interest in participating in the garden?

What support have you been offered by local partners (e.g. organisations, schools, businesses, community groups)?

What type of communtiy garden do people want in your community? (e.g. communal, individual plots, ‘open garden’, sensory garden, demonstration garden, orchard, mixture of types, other)

You are encouraged to seek the support of residents adjacent to the community garden and any other residents overlooking the garden. What feedback have you received from these neighbours?

Group Capacity

How many community members have expressed an interest in being part of the community garden?

What type of involvement are these community members interested in? (e.g. organising committee, individual plot, communal gardening, general volunteer)

How will the group build the garden initially?

How much volunteer time will the current members be able to put into the garden once it is established?

Site Details and Garden Design

Provide a map of the site of your proposed community garden

Describe why this is your preferred site and the benefit of this particular site for a community garden.

Provide a design of the community garden (indicate what types of plants you plan to grow where e.g. vegetables, natives, fruit trees and where other features would go)

How will security be managed on the site to reduce theft and vandalism?

Garden Features

Describe any other the specific features that will be required (e.g. meeting space, education and display areas, fencing, shelter, tool storage, disability access, car parking etc.)

Where would community members access a toilet while using the proposed site?

How will tools and equipment be stored at the site?

Will you have fences around the site? If so, when will the garden be open to the wider community?

How will the garden cater for a diverse range of people? (e.g. children, older people, people with a disability, people from culturally diverse backgrounds)

Costs and Budget

What are your expected expenses for establishing the garden?

What are your expected ongoing expenses for running the garden?

How much income/revenue will you need to raise to cover the ongoing costs of the community garden? How do you plan to do this? (e.g. member fees, fundraisers, business sponsorship, applying for grants)
