Deceased animals

Council will arrange the collection and disposal of dead animals from Council property (e.g. roads, footpaths and reserves) but not private property.

Private Property

The collection and disposal of animals from private property is the responsibility of the property owner. Animals can be taken to either:

  • Animal Welfare League 19 Cormack Road, Wingfield
  • Local Vets
  • Pet Cemeteries/Crematorium

Remember to check whether there is a charge involved before taking the animal to the above locations.

Major Arterial Roads

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure is responsible for the collection and disposal of animals from major arterial roads. For more information phone:

Council Property

If the animal is on council property, council will require the following information:

  • Location
  • Type of animal
  • Approximate size (small, medium, large)

A council officer will endeavour to collect the animal within 3 hours of notification, 7 days a week. Please call the Customer Service Centre between the hours of 8.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday.

Following the collection, when it is possible to identify the animal (through collars, tags and/or microchips) council will attempt to advise the owner of the animal's demise.
