Things to do
The Marion Historic Village Walk takes you on an historical journey around the original Marion Historic Village.
The walk includes historic sites such as Light Square, Annie Doolan’s Cottage, Laurel Cottage, the Old Marion Inn and Threadgold’s Birthing House.
Discover community and street art along the route, including our gateway to Marion Historic Village and the other Little Marion sculptures. The sculptures were created by Gerry McMahon and are based on local resident Margaret Western’s recollections and stories of growing up in the village. The Little Marion’s have been adopted by a local family in the village who regularly place ribbons in their hair.
The community worked closely with local artists Cheryl Dean and Irene Dougan from Beachroad Artworks Inc. to develop the tiled mosaic interpretive plaques along the walk; the Hopscotch in George Street Reserve; Light Square benches and interpretive plaques.
Brochures can be collected from the City of Marion, the Marion Heritage Research Centre (next to Council on Sturt Road) and the Marion Historic Village Museum (Township Road, Marion).
The Marion Historic Village Heritage Walk was researched and designed by community members from the Marion Historic Village Project Group working with council to celebrate the region's unique history.
Working closely with artists and writers, the community members met monthly to research and develop the resources and contributed to a number of artworks and street signage that celebrate the local stories and sites of importance to the Village community.
